O boy, what a hot night! Kept the fan running inches from our bed - that did the trick! Today was obviously going to be another scorcher, so we got up fairly early (ie in holiday time) and we were off into the town on our bikes by 9 o'clock. We spent the morning exploring the nooks and crannies of Issoire, climbing the spiral staircase of the clock tower to see over the rooftops of the town and the volcanos of the Auvergne in the distance.

We went to look in the abbey, but there was a funeral going on, so we sat in a peaceful park in the shade till lunch-time.

The cafe we chose didn't serve cordon bleu, but it was cool and satisfying. The abbey church is being restored - hence all the scaffolding - but it was worth a look inside and chilling out(!) in the crypt.

Afternoon spent rather like yesterday .... Moving on a bit further south tomorrow.
Hi
ReplyDeleteGlad you are enjoying the Auvergne, weather sounds rather different to here! We've had plenty of rain this week and it's not exactly hot!
Just packing up for our holiday in Wales, where we will probably need macs, umbrellas and warm jumpers. Hopefully there will be enough sunny intervals to take Tilly to the beach and on the steam trains.
The walk went well on Monday, a good turnout for Alex.
Hope to be able to keep up with your travels in the wilds of Wales!
